African movie paintings
Book, 19 × 25 cm, 336 pp, proposal
In Ghana and Nigeria it was common during the 80s
to hand-paint or even copy existing movie posters
to announce an upcomming screening. Thus a new
business of artistic advertisment established.
The posters are painted on used flour bags,
sewn together. The layout for the images derives
from the middle fold of each poster. More than
200 paintings from a private dutch collector
appear in the book. Texts from the artists and
essays about the film culture are scattered
throughout the book.
